Once
again, participants will keep track of the different ways they interact
with our libraries in January and February, entering to win prize
baskets filled with goodies and gifts. More info coming soon!
Here's what was shared at their recent Gratitude Gathering:
"The
Athens County Public Libraries system has become a leader in
addressing and assisting with critical community issues and solutions
like substance use disorder, poverty, food accessibility, literacy,
resource and referral, youth programming and so many more. The ACPL has
become an extremely valuable resource for community members, local
government, schools, the university, healthcare providers, and many
others. They offer assistance through helping with projects, community
conversations, offering space, COVID tests/resources, staff time towards
projects, and much more. The staff are committed to outreach and
betterment in the communities they serve and beyond.
They
are a 'go to' partner because of their high level of engagement and
willingness to be involved, and there are few projects that CHSP engages
in that ACPL staff are not involved in or serving in some sort of
leadership capacity. Some examples include Athens HOPE, Age-Friendly
Athens County, and the COVID Impact on Children Initiative. The staff
are always willing to be involved, offer assistance, and are well
respected by all of the various constituents they serve and partner
with. They are an immeasurably important resource for the area and not
often given the recognition they deserve for their innumerable
contributions towards community betterment."
Staff Spotlight:
Meet Eric, Nelsonville Library Associate
You've been serving Athens County for 26 years with ACPL. What library roles have you had during that time?
Correctional
Facility Service Coordinator; Community Service
Supervisor; Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
Coordinator; SEO Processor for interlibrary loans; Copy Machine Supply Order Guy; Staff Crooner (I take song requests.)
What changes have you seen come into being at ACPL in 2.5+ decades?
eBooks
as another reading option. A shift to libraries being seen as a true
community center. More everyday needs because of the poverty cycle,
which leads to more community needs.
What does a "typical" day look like for you right now?
I look to see who's out for the day and how I can fill in. Then SEO returns/requests. Sing for everyone to hear. Help out
the new Nelsonville library manager in her role (she's AWESOME). I
also get a lot of questions because I've been here so
long-- that goes for other staff members also.
If you could tell library visitors about an ACPL resource or service they might not know about, what would it be?
LinkedIn Learning (the former Lynda.com). You can learn a variety of different skills.
What else do you want patrons to know about you and/or your work at ACPL?
If anyone knows Joey Burrow, can you have him contact me? I'd like to get him to do a library program before I retire. Thanks!
