Chauncey and Wells (Albany) libraries take
Stuffed Animal Sleepovers to a new level

In Chauncey, library staff created a "hidden cameras" video showing some of the stuffies' overnight shenanigans when left alone in the library. And in Albany, participants dropped off their animals for a first aid-themed sleepover, where a local "nurse" fixed ailments so that animals and their humans could enjoy more years of fun together!

Staff Spotlight:
Meet Amy, Athens Public Library Manager
What kinds of things have you enjoyed most about your job, and what are you planning/dreaming about starting someday?

I love all the weird and wonderful questions we get -- and the rabbit-holes of exploration they open up. I learn so many wonderful things every day and become aware of things I NEVER knew even existed! It's so much fun!

I am always dreaming big. I have many very ambitious projects that I am constantly thinking about. Currently, I am looking into working on a Monarch butterfly garden. We love having monarchs here at the library over the summer and watching them emerge.
I am also constantly looking for ways we can highlight or collaborate with local area groups that patrons or my staff might not know about.

We had a generous donation of a baby grand piano a couple of years ago, and I love the access to world-class musicians we have been able to provide for free.

I love and respect the community I get to serve at this library system. I am constantly thinking of ways the Athens library can expand our resources in our community.

What does a "typical" day look like for you right now?

Typical days are filled with lots of variety -- usually a bit of desk/book returns time, which gives me a chance to actually look at and handle lots of books (YEAH!). Helping staff with all nature of questions, from complex patron account issues to library policies and scheduling. I enjoy the constant change. (Basically, if you don't like doing something as a librarian, just wait a second! Something more interesting will soon be needing attention.)

If you could tell library visitors about an ACPL resource or service that they might not know about, what would it be?

I love that we have a Northstar Digital Literacy computer drop-in class that our Tech Trainer Sarie runs every Monday here at the Athens branch. Sarie offers in-person assistance for computer literacy. Northstar Digital Literacy is a great, self-paced online computer learning platform. It's a wonderful resource, and I would love to see more patrons take advantage of it.
