This fall, our Athens branch received the gift of a baby grand, whose generous donors wish to remain anonymous.
According
to librarian Todd, Athens adult programming and exhibits
coordinator, this piano has a 1925 construction date and is a
turn-of-the century model that won the Paris Exhibition
competition.
Regulars
have no doubt already had the experience of browsing or
studying at the library while a show tune or sonata drifted through the
building. Past library events featuring an additional upright piano at
this location highlighted great composers of the past
like Debussy, celebrated local talent,
and offered piano students a relaxed and welcoming space
for a recital.
We look forward to more musical library programs with this newest addition!
The Imagination Library in Athens County has also enrolled over 1,700 children and delivered over 13,700 books! This
countywide service is administered by the Athens County Public
Libraries and funded by the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library, with
the Athens County Foundation providing matching local funds.
Help
continue bringing FREE books into the hands of Athens County children
by supporting the Athens County Imagination Library Fund.
Join us Saturday, November 20 from 2-3pm for a virtual visit with Jerry Craft, the New York Times bestselling and Newbery Medal-winning author and illustrator.
In 2019, Craft's New Kid became the first graphic novel to win the Kirkus Prize
in the “Young Readers’ Literature” category. A few months later, it won the
2020 John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to
children’s literature. It's the first graphic novel in the
Newbery’s nearly 100-year history to receive the award!
Jerry
will join us via Zoom to chat about his work, as well as answer
questions from the audience. A link to the Zoom event will be
emailed to those who register for the program here. All ages welcome.
